Baptism

Baptism symbolises the end of your old life and the start of your new life in Christ. The simplest meaning of baptism is the washing away of our sins- like having a big bath! It is an outward sign of an inner change. Baptism is a sign that we have been united in the death of Christ. When you are baptised you can leave all the bad things of the past in the water and rise up into new life.

As a church we believe in believer’s baptism. Once you become a Christian, once you receive God’s free gift of grace, the next step in your faith journey is to get baptised. This is your public declaration of faith. We baptise by full immersion in water. You will be asked to give a brief testimony of how God has changed your life since becoming a Christian. We baptise in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit as commanded in the Bible.

We do not baptise babies as they have not yet made their personal decision to follow Jesus. Instead, we dedicate babies to God and give thanks for the gift of a new life. We pray for the parents as they promise to bring their children up in the love and knowledge of Jesus.

We hold baptism services several times a year. If you would like to get baptised please contact christine@elimcarlisle.org and we can give you details of our next baptism.
