John & Rachel have been members of our church for a number of years and served as missionaries in Paraguay for a year in 2009/10. Following this they spent a further 2 years at the request of Elim International Missions Department, in Honduras, to help deal with some issues that had developed there. After a period at home on furlough, they returned to Paraguay in September 2012 for a further term of 3 years with the aim of planting an Elim Church there.
Their hope is to be able to reconnect with the contacts they had before and to pioneer a work that will help facilitate disadvantaged young people receiving training and equipping, which they otherwise could not afford or access. They are looking to establish churches with social action works, like Project Joseph in Honduras, to meet both the spiritual and physical needs of members of the community.
They have been learning Guarani, which is the indigenous language spoken throughout Paraguay, and this will enable them to speak in the more rural communities without a translator and to understand the culture they will be ministering in.
They have both been accepted as Ministers in Training with Elim. As a church we support them practically, prayerfully and financially through our missionary support fund, where members and attenders are able to donate amounts of any size on a monthly or one-off basis.
